Helen McDougal

Helen McDougal age 88, of Speegleville passed away Friday April 27, 2012 at her home. Funeral Services will be 2PM Tuesday May 1, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Jim Menke officiating. Interment will follow at Clifton Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30PM Monday April 30, 2012 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel.

Helen was born August 6, 1923 outside of Valley Mills, Texas to William and Emilie Thiele. She grew up on her family’s farm. She graduated from Valley Mills High School in 1941 and would eventually attend 4C Business College. She married Nealy McDougal on September 22, 1945 in the same church where she was baptized and confirmed. They settled in Clifton where they raised their three girls and Helen was a homemaker until Nealy passed away in 1960. Then Helen went to work for the Clifton schools and the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home until moving to Waco in 1971. She retired from Providence Hospital where she had worked in the business office for many years. After her retirement, she continued to work for a number of years in the Waco office of AARP.
Throughout her life she enjoyed cooking for her family. She passed down her favorite recipes along with stories of her life which she compiled in a book. Many happy hours were spent attending school events and other activities of her grandchildren. She was also active in her church and enjoyed volunteering in the community. She was designated an Alumni by Choice by Baylor University from which her daughter and five grandchildren graduated.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nealy McDougal, parents, and infant sister, Mildred.

Helen is survived by daughters Shirley Ann Bradshaw and husband Randy, Brenda Kay Ramey and husband Bob, and Betty Lou Dossman and husband, Rusty; grandchildren Alicia Birdwell and husband, Jason, Kelly Dossman and wife, JoAnna, Greg Dossman and wife, Yvonne, Stacy Perry and husband, Adam, Travis Bradshaw, Wendy Edmond and husband, Tommy; great-grandchildren Jack, Megan, Sydney, Katy, John, Brandon, Donavon, and Amber Brooke. She is also survived by sisters Nadine Conrad and Dorothy Conrad and husband, David, sister-in-law Emma McDougal, seven nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Kelly Dossman, Greg Dossman, Travis Bradshaw, Jason Birdwell, Adam Perry, and Tommy Edmond.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to her church family and caring neighbors.
