Helen Burns

Helen Rae Roberts Matties Burns, 86, of Hewitt, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2014. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Oakwood Cemetery with the Reverend Billy Edwards officiating. A luncheon at Brazos Meadows Baptist Church, 625 Hewitt Drive, Hewitt will follow the service.

Helen was born September 12, 1927 to the late Mae and William Bell Roberts in Crandall, Texas. She graduated from Irving High School in 1944. On May 27, 1946 she married Curtis (Curt) Matties of Sherman, TX. They spent most of their life together in Waco until his passing in 1975. In 1994, she married Robert (Bob) Burns of Tenaha, TX and they spent the last 20 years of her life together. Helen loved her God and her family; she was a good and faithful servant to both.

Helen was preceded in death by her first husband, Curtis B. Matties, and her sisters, Billye Dillon and Jo Ann Rogers.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Emmett Burns; daughter, Marcy Matties and husband, Chib Allen and daughter, Elaine Matties Phillips and husband, Bob; sister, Carolyn Biles; grandson, Jonathan Phillips and wife, Özlem; step-daughter, Karen Meriwether-Snow and husband, Tom Snow; step-daughter Patsy Smith and husband, Larry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
