Hazel Marie (Jones) Haik, 93, a long-time resident of Waco, was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven at 08:15 on Thursday night (Thanksgiving), November 26, 2020.
Hazel was born August 13th, 1927 in Kirk, Texas, to parents Paul Herndon Jones and Gurley Mae (Azbell) Jones.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband, Fo Haik, and her son, Bill Newman and daughter-in-law Carolyn (McClain) Newman, and son-in-law Luis Sais, Sr. She is survived by her daughters, Becky Haik and Paula Sais, five grand-children (Luis Sais, Jr., Esteban Sais, Andrea Sais, Cody Newman, and Erin Price), numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and extended family.
In her younger years, Hazel worked at the Owens-Illinois glass plant in Waco. After she retired, she sold tomatoes and various other consumable produce in her neighborhood from her garage. She enjoyed league bowling, fishing, and gardening. She was deeply involved in the Waco Chapter of the American Iris Society for many, many years.
As per her wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes will be “Spread across Texas”.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name can be made to the American Iris Society. The link to make those donations is https://www.irises.org/about-ais/donations/
The family would like to personally thank the crews from Waco Fire Station 6 and the personnel from AMR Waco for the excellent care they rendered during her times of need.
