Harold Earl Washam, aged 89, of McGregor, Texas passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday June 25th, 2017. A visitation with the family will be Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in the Parlor room. His memorial service will be held at Grace Gardens Funeral home in Waco, Texas on Wednesday June 28, 2017 at 2:00 PM with burial following at Oakwood Cemetery.
He was born on October 8, 1927 in Modesto, California to Sherman and Alice Washam. He graduated from Highlandville High School in Highlandville, Missouri and attended Barber college in Denver, Colorado. He was a veteran of the US Army having served among the “Greatest Generation” during World War II.He was married to Dora Imogene Maples on December 22, 1946 and was faithfully married to his beautiful bride for over 70 years. Harold was a home builder and carpenter all of his adult life. A fire fighter and EMT for over 40 years. He was a hobby farmer, billiard table maker, apartment manager, community college board trustee and security guard. He was a jack of all trades who could do most anything. He loved working with wood, inventing, writing poetry and letters to the editor and dabbling in politics. He was always very active in church leadership as a church planter, deacon and builder. He was a man dedicated to his God, his family and his country. He took his greatest pride in seeing his children grow into men and women who shared those same commitments. His life was an embodiment of what it means to be a dedicated Christian, husband, father and citizen. His last heard words were from the 23rd Psalm; “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
He is survived by his wife Imogene, children Mike, Debra, Mark and Tim. At his passing he had fourteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
