Mr. Culverhouse was born in 1931 in Watt, TX, on the heels of the Great Depression. Grover was the youngest of 9 children. His humble beginnings shaped the strong family man, gentle communicator, and all around Rock of Gibraltar that he became.
Grover’s first devotion and biggest source of pride was his family. His undying loyalty and untiring commitment to family served as a guiding beacon to his children and grandchildren. Grover took care of others until his dying breath, as if it was his mission in life, written into the stars at his birth. Among adoring children and grandchildren, he leaves behind his wife of 59 years and the love of his life, Sandra Courtney Culverhouse of Waco, TX.
He was the consummate coach and teacher, exhibiting calm support and infinite patience.
A long-time member of Waco Founder Lions Club, Grover was one of the distinguished recipients of the Club’s ‘Man of the Year’ award.
Many will remember Grover as a master of the bar-b-que pit. Though he celebrated an award or two in his time at the pit, the real reward was in feeding others. Grover was happiest when making others happy.
Grover touched so many lives in his 89 years on this earth, he will be deeply and sorely missed.
Masks and social distancing will be required. For those desiring, In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made in Grover’s memory to Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, Texas 75219.
