Biography

Gregory Ballard Johnson, age 46, of Waco, passed away Wednesday February 1, 2012 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home chapel with Sue Snyder officiating. Visitation will be 4 – 6 pm Saturday February 4th at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.

Gregory was born May 23, 1965 in Waco, Texas to Dale and Trudie Johnson. He graduated from Lorena High School in 1983, Baylor University in 1987 and University of Texas School of Law in 1990. He was a partner in the law firm of Malone and Johnson in Waco. He later worked as a writer/editor for WRS Group, where he researched and created health education materials. He was an Associate Editor and writer for U-Monthly Magazine and a frequent contributor for other publications. Greg was a bible class teacher and was passionate about seeking equal justice for all under the law.

Greg loved sports, especially Baylor sports, and was a long-time girls’ soccer coach. He was known as a creative and kind, and funny individual, beloved by co-workers, friends and family, who were inspired by his strength and courage.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Johnson and grandparents James Nelson and Frances Estelle Johnson and Gladys and S.C. Ballard.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Friedel Johnson of Waco; daughters Elizabeth and Abigail Johnson, and son Jordan Williams, all of Waco; mother Trudie Tate and her husband R.L. Tate of Lorena; and brother Jeff Johnson and wife Kathleen of California and step-brother Lee Tate of Austin.
