Greg (Pops) Guercio, 73, died Sunday, November 20, 2022, peacefully at his home in Robinson, Texas. A visitation will be held at Grace Gardens on Friday, November 25 beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a memorial rosary at 7:30 p.m.. Mass and funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 26 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waco, Texas. The family will host a private internment.
Greg was born on April 29, 1949, in Baton Rouge, LA to Tommy and Jean Guercio. He was 1 of 6 children and enjoyed growing up in a big family with his siblings and cousins. He married JoAnne Martino on August 9, 1969, and together they built a wonderful life raising two sons, Jody and Jeremy, and one daughter, Katy.
Greg was a devout Catholic, avid tennis player, and lifelong learner. He was fascinated by the ocean and loved learning more about God’s creation. He loved his LSU Tigers and tried to perfect his golf game once his knees quit letting him play tennis. He retired from JCPenney after 39 years of service and then as the Vice President of Auxillary Services at TSTC in 2020.
Greg is survived by his wife, JoAnne, their three children, significant others, and 6 grandchildren. Jody Guercio (Owen), Jeremy and Cristina Guercio (Kailyn and Keirstyn), Ryan and Katy King (Radley, Emersyn, and Landry), and many “adopted” children and grandchildren - all that will miss him dearly. He also leaves behind siblings Tommye Jean, Philip, Robert, and Mark along with many dear cousins, their significant others, nieces, and nephews.
Greg is preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Jean, and one sister, Theresa, and too many dogs and cats to count.
We are sure heaven has welcomed him home with a hug from his mom and a meet and greet with Elvis. And that somewhere he just aced a serve and got a hole-in-one at heaven’s greatest golf course.
In honor of Greg’s love for LSU, the family is asking people to wear their favorite purple and gold to the visitation In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the following (or the charity of your choice):
