Granvill E. Bennett, age 73 of Waco, passed away Friday September 10, 2010 at a local hospital with his family by his side. Funeral Services will be at 10 AM Monday September 13, 2010 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday September 12, 2010 from 3 to 5PM at Grace Gardens Funeral Home .
Granvill was born November 18, 1936 in Leonard, Texas to Omer and Edna Bennett. He graduated from Sherman High School, after which he joined the Naval Reserves during the Korean War. He graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Criminal Justice while working for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Granvill followed the family’s tradition of Railroad careers. He served as Special Investigator for the Southern Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads and retired after 20 years of service.
Granvill is survived by his wife Merinell of 44 years; two sons; Mark Bennett of Pottsboro, and Danny Bennett and wife, Tammie of Rowlett; two daughters, Jill Liska and husband, Mark of Lorena; Kimberly Bennett of Frisco. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Kristopher Liska and his wife Kelli, Johnathon Bennett, Ryan Liska and Logan Kimball. Granvill is also survived by his only brother, Bob Bennett of Layefette, Louisiana.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Dean Whatley of Sherman, Texas.
