Grace Alita Philyaw Bishop, lovingly known as GiGi was born on July 29, 1943 in Memphis, TN. She passed away at the age of 81 on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at home.

She is survived by her husband of over 36 years, Ben Bishop, daughter Alita Gail, sister Ruth Crocker, brother Marlin Philyaw, granddaughter Holly Hall, grandson Hank Hults, great granddaughter Stella Jean Hults and step-daughter Amber Bishop. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, William E. Philyaw and Grace Barnes Philyaw, son Leo Benkendorfer, and sister Phyllis Philyaw Hixson.

Gigi graduated Waco High in 1961 and was a member of the reunion committee for several years. In her youth Gigi was athletic, her love of running carried on into adulthood. Gigi and Ben ran 3 miles several times a week, until the onset of Covid. She had numerous trophies and medals for her half marathons. Gigi was also known for her love of dancing. Ben and Gigi could be found country and western dancing throughout the years together. 

A skilled artist, working in various media; acrylic paintings, chalk sketches, home scenescapes that made you feel as if you were in Italy. Additionally, her talents included sewing hundreds of ballet, tap and jazz costumes for her children and other professional performances at Jones Hall and The Music Hall in Houston, TX. 

Gigi was a one-of-a-kind wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a phenomenal Human Being. Gigi loved Jesus and was always kind. There will never be a replacement. Her mouthwatering biscuits and gravy will forever be remembered!

A graveside service for Gigi will be at 10:00am, Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Rosemound Cemetery.
