Grace Amir, age 87, of Waco, passed away at a local hospital on April 3, 2010. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30PM on Monday April 5, 2010 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel at 8220 Woodway Dr., Waco, TX with Pastor Grant Kaul officiating.
Miss Amir was born April 11, 1922 to Frederick and Gladys Amir in the Parish of Portland, Jamaica, W. I. She worked as a secretary and was a member of the Kingston, Jamaica Bible Students Ecclesia. She emigrated to the United States of America in 1968. Until retirement she worked at the Laymen’s Home Missionary Movement headquarters in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. While she had no children of her own, she was like a second mother to her niece, Hilary.
Her faith is best described in a letter to her brother: “I feel that the safest place in the whole wide world is at the foot of the Cross. That’s where I frequently picture myself, with Jesus’ blood flowing over me—washing away all my many imperfections. His yoke is easy and His burden light…”
She was preceded in death by her sister Beulah Amir Brooks and brother Kenneth Amir. She is survived by her niece; Hilary Brooks Gill and her husband John, and their sons Matthew and Nicholas of Waco, Texas.
