Goble Reed Jr., 80, of Waco, went to be with our Lord in the early hours on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016. A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 am on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016 at Adams Brown Funeral Home, 6906 US-431, Albertville, AL 35950.
Goble Reed Jr. was born on November 27, 1935 to Goble Reed Sr. and Rebecca Hughes Reed in Hippo, KY. Goble served his country in the United States Army after being drafted in 1958. He served two years in FT. Knox, KY and Gary IN. After leaving the military, he went back home to Hippo, KY where he worked with his Dad and his brother in the Gas Industry. He then re-enlisted in the Army in 1962 serving all over the world in the Military Intelligence Field , including two tours in Vietnam and Thailand . He also served in Korea, The Panama Canal zone, Hawaii , Europe and several stations in the United States. He was decorated with many medals and awards which included 3 Bronze Stars. He was most proud of his Meritorious Service Medal. He was honorably discharged at the Rank of Master Sergeant. He retired to Alabama where he worked for ten years , counseling on Aging. He sometimes served as a Commander of the Local V.F.W. Post. He then moved to Waco, TX to be with his family that included, his loving wife of fifty years, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In Waco, he volunteered for Hillcrest Hospital as he selflessly drove guests to and from their cars in all types of weather. He enjoyed playing the game of 42. Goble loved his family and loved his country. He was always a blessing to everyone he came in contact with. He loved to tell stories and talk to anyone about anything at anytime. He never met a stranger. He was kind and wonderful man that will be truly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his three brothers; Jimmy Dean Reed ,Carl Reed and Roger Reed all of KY.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Martha Reed of Waco, his son, Ronnie Reed and wife, Sue of Waco, eight grandchildren; Wayne Reed and wife, Shiela of Tallahassee, Florida, Blake Reed and wife, Lindsey of McGregor, Jarred Milam and wife, Shelby of Waco, Justin Milam and wife, Alisa of McKinny, nine great grandchildren; Macy Milam, Mia Milam, Madeline Milam, Hailey Milam, Kievan Reed, Reva Reed, Sydney Reed, Blayke Reed and John Reed who is due in May, five sisters; Thelma Stephens, Gertrude Goble, Elva Prater, Edith Maggard, Sue Prater all of Kentucky.
