Glenwood “Glen” Arnold, of Waco, died February 17, 2012 after a struggle with cancer. A celebration and memorial of Glen’s life will be 2PM Tuesday February 21, 2012 at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Carl Freeto and Rev. Brad Brittain officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Family visitation will be from 6 to 8PM Monday at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Glen was born on September 4, 1935, in Brenham, Texas, to Erich H.F. and Selma Deiss Arnold. He met the love of his life, Billie Joyce Ferguson, whom he married on August 20, 1960. They are the proud parents of three sons: Dennis, Gregory, and Stuart.
Glen graduated in 1954 from Waco High School. He received his BA degree from Baylor University in 1958, also receiving his commission thru the Air Force ROTC at that time. He received his MBA from the University of Oklahoma with he attended form 1965 to 1967. He served in the United States Air Force form December 1958 until retirement in December 1979. He served during the Viet Nam War, and was awarded the Bronze Star, The Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters, and the Meritorious Service Medal. Following his retirement from the U.S. Air Force, Glen served for twenty one years as the Executive Vice President of the Association of General contractors (AGC), Central Texas Chapter, where he was instrumental in the establishment of a training fund, offering scholarships to worthy students interested in a construction career. Glen was a proud member of the Central United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Erich Arnold, his mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Ferguson, a sister Pearl Sherrod and brother-in-law Ralph Sherrod, a brother Erich R. Arnold, and three other brother-in-laws Raymond Grossman, Bill Cox and Wilbert Althof.
He is survived by his wife Joyce; three sons Dennis Arnold and wife Genall, Gregory Arnold and wife Staci, and Stuart Arnold and wife Angela; grandchildren Jessica Heidrick and husband Mark, Rebecca Arnold, Zachary Arnold, Addison Arnold, Cheyanne Arnold, and Heath Arnold; sisters Ruth Grossman, Adina Cox, and Irmgard Althof; sister-in-law Betty Arnold; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mark Arnold, Kirk Arnold, Rick Shelton, Billy Joe Akins, Bobby Meador and Bobby Nichols. Honorary pallbearers are Edwin Barker, James Beatty, James Burris, W.G. Cooper, Sammy McLarty, Arnie Rossi and Gerald Staas; also all the General Contractor members and associate members who he had the pleasure of working with at the AGC.
Joyce stated the following: “If the measure of a man is the rules by which he lived his life and the values he instilled in his children, then Glen’s life was a great success story.”
