On a snowy morning, January 9, 1942, an ambulance struggled down an old country road in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to take Mary South to the hospital with child. A few minutes later, Glendafae O’Deen South was born. In Glenda’s early years, Mary South married Loyd Henry Martin, who would become her daddy.
Glenda passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2011, at her home in Chalk Bluff. She was surrounded by family and friends plus God's mercy and grace. A memorial will be held 1PM Monday, August 15, 2011 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, Waco, TX. Her ashes will be spread in a proper location.
Glendafae was devoted to a 34 year marriage and a lifetime of motherhood. She grew up in Lamesa, Texas where she graduated from Lamesa High School, Class of 1960. She retired from a career with Tatex Thermographers. Her many hobbies included dancing, country western music, her playful grandchildren, art and drawing, and collecting dolls. She was also an excellent seamstress.
Glendafae was preceded in death by her parents, Mary South-Martin and Loyd Henry Martin.
Survivors include three sons, Kevin Allbright and wife Natalie, Karl Allbright, John Allbright and wife Dana; two daughters, Samantha Rosas and husband Ronnie and Sabrina Allbirght-Wolske; a sister, Sharon Edgeton and husband Michael; a brother, Thomas Loyd Martin and wife Brenda; grandchildren, Hilary, Trevor and wife Emma, Seth, Kelsey, Ryann, Brooke, Rance, and Bailey; great grandchildren, Skylar, Abram, and Chase along with many nephews and nieces. She also leaves behind a loyal companion, Max Allbright, who laid beside her bed for protection and comfort.
Glendafae had a heart of gold and was a mother to many others in her life.
The family wishes to express their special thanks to Hillcrest Hospice, Dr. Nichols, and special friends, Brandy and Vashan Zinz.
Flowers are welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hillcrest Hospice.
