Glenda Eulene Pruner passed away on February 18th, 2025 in Hewitt, TX following unexpected cardiac related complications. She was born in Colorado Springs, CO on August 4, 1951 as the youngest of 3 siblings. She spent the first 9 years of her life in a farmhouse in Agate, CO until her mother, Charlotte Elizabeth (Finch), moved the family to Colorado Springs after the passing of her father, Glen Olonza Pruner. She moved to Texas in 1968 for the birth of her son, whom she gave up for adoption. She lived the rest of her life in the state as a dedicated healthcare worker, an avid traveler, and an active participant in the various clubs and teams she joined pursuing the hobbies she loved.
After graduating from Texas Women’s University in 1973 with a degree in Occupational Therapy, Glenda joined the Waco Veteran’s Affairs Hospital. She spent her entire career with the VA, moving from therapy into senior management, until she retired in August of 2014 from the Temple VA Medical Center. She did contract therapy work along with her full time job, which she continued after retiring. In her retirement, she also started a business selling high quality, homemade bath and body products at multiple markets in and around Waco.
She designed and built a home in the country, in Prairie Hill, where she lived for over 30 years. She spent a lot of time taking care of the property and continued that trend when she moved into town in 2021. She loved plants, and made sure her house had a sunroom where they could thrive. Her home was filled with owls (figurines, pictures, and art), which she collected her whole life.
She had a big heart and was always there for the people she cared about. She maintained multiple lifelong friendships, and looked forward to visiting with them as often as possible. As an animal lover, she has always had pets and has provided a loving home to many dogs and cats over the years. Living in the country brought lots of strays to her door, and she took in every single one of them.
Glenda was always active, participating in softball leagues and running events (including a half marathon) regularly for years before falling in love with scuba diving and skiing and becoming involved in their local clubs. The Bottom Time Dive Club became a big part of her life and she was very involved in activities with them and served as a board member for many years. Her other hobbies included reading, doing puzzles, and playing games.
She loved to travel and would take every opportunity to see new places. She went on many incredible dive trips, visited her nieces and travelled with them, and was part of a travel group that did a couple of big trips each year - most recently to Churchill to see the polar bears, and on a safari in Namibia, Africa. She took amazing photos of her adventures and enjoyed sharing them with friends and family.
Her nieces were a big part of her life from the time they were born, spending every Christmas together, visiting every summer, and traveling together every chance they got. They were known to her friends as “the girls.”
A little more than two years before she passed, the son she gave up for adoption found her and they began building a relationship. Through him she became a grandmother and a great grandmother.
Predeceased by her sister, Audrey, she is survived by her brother, Robert; her nieces, Michelle and Shannon; her son, Richard and his wife, Kayla; her grandsons, Hagen, Darien, and Kallan; and great granddaughters, Ava and Claira.
A celebration of life is being planned for late spring. Details to follow.
