Gladys Weaver

May 5, 1937 — May 15, 2009

Gladys Tommie Weaver was called home to our Lord on May 15, 2009. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family after a long illness of Parkinson’s and metastatic breast cancer. The family will receive visitors at Grace Garden Funeral home (8220 Woodway Dr.) on Monday May 18th from 6-8pm. The service will be held on Tuesday May 19th at 11am at Grace Gardens with Brother James Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.

Mrs. Weaver was born on May 5, 1937 in Riesel, Texas to the late Thomas Abram and Vinnie Pearl (Brown) York. She attended school in Morgan, Texas where she graduated as valedictorian and received a full scholarship to Baylor University. She worked for years at Piccadilly Cafeteria throughout her young adulthood and later worked at Veterans Administration where she met the love of her life, Earl R. Weaver and was married to Earl for 20 years. Gladys remained very active and enjoyed traveling and most sports; especially those of her grandchildren.

Gladys had season tickets to the Lady Bears basketball games and was an avid follower throughout her illness. She enjoyed playing “42” at the Senior Center and attended any dance she could. Gladys volunteered for Hillcrest Hospital after the death of her husband and was active in Friends for Life. She was preceded in death by her late husband, her parents, and her sister, Opal Colia.

Gladys is survived by her three children; a son Harold Jones and wife Ruby of Abilene, daughters, Melissa Steinke and husband Ronald Elk, and daughter Teresa Allred of Lorena; three sisters, Addie Elin, Dorothy Crouch, and Norma Smith; brothers, Abram York and George York; six wonderful grandchildren; Anna Jones, Chandler, Mckenzie, and Landon Steinke, and Miranda and Kylie Allred.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hinds at Providence Health Center for his awesome care and quick diagnosis, and Wesley Woods Center as well as Providence Hospice for their excellent, compassionate care.
