George Vardeman

The world lost another of its Greatest Generation when George Wayne Vardeman passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 6, 2015, at the age of 89. A loving, boisterous man of true grit, Wayne lived the American Dream. Raised as a farmer’s son in Nacogdoches County, Texas, he graduated high school, joined the Navy, and did his best to serve God and others his whole life. Wayne had a successful career in avionics and retired in 1988 from Collins Radio Company / Rockwell International in Dallas, Texas. In later years, he enjoyed attending U.S. Navy reunions with his shipmates from the U.S.S. Hoggatt Bay. He volunteered throughout his life, from Boy Scout Master to Ombudsman. Wayne lived his life with passion and intent. He shared his faith in God and salvation with all he left behind, including his wife of 25 years, Wilma “Bootie” Vardeman; his children, Guy and Michael Vardeman, Scott and Jean Vardeman, Marsha and Rick Stockbridge, Tracy and Ron Watt, Steve Windsor, Suzanne and Sandy Teague, Vickie and Dieter Daly; and many precious grandchildren, nieces, nephews, dear friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ona and George Vardeman, his brother Barney Vardeman, and his first wife of 30 years Bebe Vardeman. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 9 from 6-8 p.m. at Grace Gardens, 8220 Woodway Dr. in Woodway, 76712. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 10 at 1 p.m. at Waco Memorial Park, 6623 S. Interstate 35 in Waco, 76702. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Mission Waco or First United Methodist Church of Woodway.
