George Wayne Merilian

George Merilian, 82 of Woodway passed away on December 13, 2023. A memorial service will
be held Friday, December 29 th at Lorena Methodist Church, 205 S Bordon St., Lorena, TX 76655.
George was born to Joe D and Lillie Merilian on January 22, 1941 in Waco, Texas. He graduated
from China Spring High School. George was in the Army National Guard before spending most
of his career working in law enforcement.
George was a devoted member of Lorena Methodist Church. On July 6, 1988, he married
Shirley Yankie. Together they shared 35 years of marriage.
After retiring he spent most of his time refinishing furniture, playing golf, going on cruises,
volunteering at the church food panty and spending time with his grandchildren.
George is survived by his wife Shirley; daughter Beverly Bawcom and husband Todd; son
Michael Wayne Bishop and wife Laura; step daughter Cathy Head and step son Michael Tyler
and wife JoBetsy. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jeffrey Bawcom, Kristopher Bawcom,
Paige Crawford, Zachary Tyler and Blake Tyler. Great-grandchildren Brynn Bawcom, Posey and
Rocky Tyler and Cora Crawford. Two sisters, Paula Bingham and Jody Anderson.
