George Wayne Mayfield passed from this life to his Heavenly home February 16, 2024 at Waco, Texas. George was born December 22, 1936 at Mineral Wells, Texas, the oldest of six children born to the late William Wayne Mayfield and Mary Elizabeth Gregory Mayfield.
He was reared in Stamford, Texas, where he was involved in farming and ranching.
George attended school in Stamford, Texas and Cisco Junior College. He graduated from Texas State Technical Institute in Waco with a degree in Civil Engineering, and graduated from Tarleton State University in Stephenville with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration.
He served his country in military service with the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960 with the 4th Armored Division. During his tour of service, he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and in Zirndorf Germany.
George Wayne and Rosie Beaty of Oglesby, Texas were married August 25, 1972 in McGregor, Texas. They were married 51-1/2 years
George served as Director of Public Works in Woodway, Texas, then as Sales Correspondent at Smead Mfg. Company in McGregor. He retired from Smead in 1992. George built a retirement home in Breckenridge, Texas on Hubbard Creek Lake.
George was preceded in death by his son, Carl Wayne Mayfield, his parents William Wayne Mayfield and Mary Elizabeth Gregory Mayfield, infant twin brothers David and Phillip Mayfield, sister Mary Evelyn Mayfield Richey, and brother William Hester (Billy) Mayfield.
He is survived by his beloved wife, sister Shirley Jean Manske, daughter Jackie Elaine Wahler and husband George Wahler and their two sons Christopher and wife Emily and son Nicholas Wahler and his three children (Mason, Hudson, and Noah Nicole) daughter Michelle Lynn Melikan, her children Marshal Cole and Chloe Bella Tompkins, and her bonus daughter Taylor Melikan. George is also survived by one daughter-in-law Dale Metcalf and her two sons Bradley Mayfield (his daughter Pieper and son Brock) Colby Mayfield and wife Alyessa (their son Caysen and daughter Maelynne). He is also survived by one sister-in-law Sylvia Mayfield. seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
George accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of twelve during a revival at First Baptist Church in Stamford, Texas. In later years he was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Breckenridege, Texas. He enjoyed Bible Prophecy, World History and Economics. He was interested in geneology and did extensive research on the Mayfield family history.
A Visitation with the family will be 5-7pm, Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Waco. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024 at one o'clock at Tankersley Funeral Home in Stamford, Texas with burial at New Hope Cemetery.
