Gaylon Threadgill, 67, took Jesus by the hand on Friday evening March 25, 2022 after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. Services will be Saturday, April, 2nd at 11:00 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church with Rev. Cary Killough officiating. Visitation will be after the service. It is requested, in honor of Gaylon and his wife Paula's love of the beach, to wear blue or a Hawaiian type shirt.
Gaylon was born in Waco, Texas on November 22, 1954 to Eldon and Pat Threadgill who preceded him in death. He was born a couple months early weighing only three pounds. He overcame that slow start pretty quickly although his hearing was damaged as a result of his early birth resulting in having to wear a hearing aid most of his life and learning to read lips. On March 7, 2003 Gaylon married the lovely Paula Thrasher beginning an adventure filled life together.
Gaylon was definitely a unique character, as one of his friends described him. Memorable in many ways. He's been described as having a stubborn shell on the outside but soft as cotton candy on the inside. He had a view of life that you should grasp every opportunity to live it to its fullest. Go on that trip, buy that souvenir, ride those rapids, see those mountains, watch the sunset, walk the beach, pick up the shells, eat the shrimp.
His major loves were his family and the beach, mostly Port Aransas, where he and Paula spent many summers and weekends and any other time they could get down there. He loved taking his kids and grandkids to Texas Rangers games. His grandkids were his weak spot and they knew that their "Grumpy" would do most anything for them. He loved Baylor sports and always had a suggestion as to how they should be coached or played. He also loved golfing (multiple time champion of the family golf tournament), fishing and working in his shop. He built desks, tables, forts and countless other things for his kids and grandkids.
He was generous to all and was always willing to help you if you needed another hand or a tool he may have, which was many. Most of his working life was in construction. His business was Threadgill Builders and he built homes, remodeled them did general handyman work and most anything else carpentry related. He also built and sold rustic furniture. He was a perfectionist and took great pride in his work. There are many families in Central Texas who have benefited from his workmanship.
He was a 1973 graduate of Robinson High School and later earned an Associated degree from TSTC in Instructional Media. Prior to starting his construction business he worked for the Texas DPS and Baylor University.
He loved Jesus with all his heart. He grew up in church at South Manor Nazarene where he was active in the youth group and teen choir which toured Texas. Later he and Paula started attending Meadowbrook Baptist Church where they have enjoyed a large circle of friends and excellent church leadership. The support and generosity of their church friends during these recent difficult times has been extraordinary and cherished.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife Paula, his brother and sister in law Randy and Debbie Threadgill of Robinson, daughters and son in laws Ashley and Lance Dixon of Charlotte, North Carolina, Tammy and Krag Daniel of Cleburne, Myla and Brian Welch of Abilene and Zoey Threadgill of Robinson. Also grandkids Taylor and Garrett Dixon, Colton and Jaygen Wells, Wyatt Daniel, Jack, Rowan and Eleanor Welch. Also great grandkids Travis and Waylon Wells.
The family wishes to thank Hillcrest Hospice for the incredibly fantastic care provided by Tammy, Teri and Jose. It is an absolute calling to be a hospice nurse or care tech and those three were exemplary in the personal way they took care of Gaylon in his last days and provided emotional support for Paula.
