Gary Herbelin

Gary Wayne Herbelin, 62, of Waco passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at a local hospital. Visitation will be Monday, August 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. A memorial service with Pastor Jon Farrer officiating will be held Tuesday, August 14, at 10 a.m., at Grace Gardens Funeral Home with military honors being presented. Interment will be for family members at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas at 2 p.m.

Gary was born Jan. 23, 1950 to Dorris Dale Todd and Joe A. Herbelin in Waco, TX. He graduated from University High School in 1968. He joined the Air Force in 1968 and continued to make it a career as a jet engine mechanic and computer programmer. He married Jean Reed on Sept 3, 1971 in Waco. Gary retired from the USAF in May 1989 after 20 years of service as a Senior Master Sergeant with many medals and ribbons awarded to him. Gary then worked for 5 years in Germany before returning to work for A. G. Edwards in St. Louis until he retired in 2010. After 40 years Gary and Jean returned to Waco to be near family and friends once more. Gary was a loving and caring husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend who will missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother.

He is survived by his wife, Jean of Waco; son Travis and wife Melissa of Natalia; father Joe Herbelin of Lorena; brother Ron and wife Jan of Waco; sisters Donna Benton and husband Brett of Lorena, and Sue Clark and husband Ed of Lorena; sisters-in-law Phyllis Rizzo and husband Joe of Georgetown; Carol McElhannon and husband Don of Robinson; granddaughters Holly and Heather of Natalia; many nephews and nieces along with friends throughout Germany and the US.
