Frederick John “Fred” Hepp, 76, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at a local hospital. Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 305 North 30th St. A reception at the church will follow.
Fred was born in 1938, to Harold Joseph and Martha Seem Hepp in Bartlesville, OK. In 1956, he graduated from Bartlesville College High School and enrolled at Colorado State University. He graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. After college, Fred joined the United States Army and served with the US Army Chemical Corps in Baltimore, MD. He took up residence in Waco in the mid-1980s. He worked here for Goodwill and later for Target for about 10 years before retiring in 2003. He enjoyed caring for neighborhood cats and relished opportunities to classify and identify local plants and flowers. Fred loved verbal wit, especially puns. He always kept up with the news and frequently told friends and family about current events. He was a long-time participant in a 12-step program.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Fred is survived by his sister Mary-Margaret Coates, of Denver, CO; brother Joseph Harold Hepp of Canoga Park, CA; nephew Brian Coates and wife Kristina of Littleton, CO; nieces Susannah Coates of Denver, CO, and Sylvia Coates of Washington, DC, and five cousins.
