Flora Halvorsen

Flora Mae Walker Halvorsen, 81, of Virginia Beach, VA , passed away peacefully on Feb. 26, 2016 at her daughter's home in Waco, TX. A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Monday, February 29, 2016 at Foster Funeral Home in the Bennett Creek Chapel 5683 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk, Virginia 23435. A Funeral Service will be at 11a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at St. Paul's Catholic Church , 522 High street, on the corner of High St. and Washington in Portsmouth, VA 23704. Interment will follow the service at Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth, VA.

Flora was born on July 4, 1935 in Prosperity, West Virginia to Elmer Arthur Walker and Gladys Marie McKinney. She moved to Portsmouth, VA when she was 8 years old. At 10 years of age she met the love of her life, Carl Thomas Halvorsen Jr. Years later, they married on April 24, 1954 and have shared 62 amazing years together. Flora loved being with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and Texas. She looked forward to seeing the bluebonnets in Texas every spring. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Portsmouth, VA.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents, and one brother, Channing Ray Walker.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters; Vanessa Halvorsen Richmond and husband Jim, Martha Halvorsen Hough and husband Stan, five grandchildren, Emily Douglas Baker and husband Brent, Kevin Douglas and wife Bristol, Haley Douglas, Casey Hough Turner and husband Cody , Tyler Hough, 8 Great Grandchildren; Cole Baker, Amanda Baker, Gus Baker, Walker Douglas, Channing Douglas, Emma Querry, Gianna Turner, Victoria Turner, one sister, Geraldine Gamboni, her loving extended family, William Halvorsen and wife Janice, Frank Halvorsen and wife Pamela, Veronica Sharrett and numerous nieces and nephews. Special loved ones, Patsy Tart Leffler, Alexandra Tanana, Brayden Herum, Ava Herum, Elena Herum, Rylee Herum, Logan Leonard and Ava Woodell.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to her caregivers and Providence Hospice.
