Fay Lorraine Kuehl Varner, a cherished member of the Waco community, passed away at the age of 97, on March 16, 2024. She was born on March 9, 1927, in Mt. Calm, Texas, as one of nine siblings. Fay graduated from Axtell High School. She married Lt. Col. Charles Howard in Killeen, Texas in 1957, and the couple had two sons. She later married Ben Varner in June 1991. She dedicated over 30 years of her life to serving at the Veterans Administration in both Waco and Killeen. Her commitment and compassion made a lasting impact on the lives of many.
Fay was a long-time and devoted member of Cogdell Methodist Church in Waco, where she found solace and companionship through her faith. She was a loving mother to her sons Rodney and Jeff Howard, who will cherish her memory forever. Fay was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ben Varner, but her legacy lives on through her surviving family members, brother, Don Kuehl; sons, Rodney, Jeff, and his wife Tammy; grandchildren, Michael, Katherine; great granddaughter, Madalynn and many nieces and nephews.
The visitation to honor Fay's life will be from 6-8 pm on Friday, March 29. Following this, a graveside service will take place at Rosemound Cemetery at 10 am on Saturday, March 30.
In celebrating Fay's life, we remember her warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by eternal love and serenity.
