Ernestine Tiller age 99 of Hewitt passed away Tuesday March 27, 2012 at a local nursing facility. Funeral Services will be 11AM Friday March 30, 2012 at Hewitt First United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Scrivener officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 3:30 PM on Friday at Memory Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Martindale, Texas. Visitation will be from 6 to 8PM Thursday March 29, 2012 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel.

Ernestine was born to Roy and Matilda (Huber) Shields of Eddy, TX on November 2, 1912. She graduated from Bruceville-Eddy High School and Texas State University in San Marcos.

She taught school for 38 years, the last 20 in San Marcos. After retiring, she spent many hours as a volunteer with Adult Education, the Chamber of Commerce, the Tourist Information Center, and on the Advisory Counsel for RSVP. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of San Marcos where she taught Sunday School and was a life member of UMW. She was also president of Adult Fellowship.

She later moved to Hewitt following her husband’s death to be near her family. She was an active member of Hewitt United Methodist Church. Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband Tommie Tiller, parents and sisters, Lorene Wittner and Earl Dean Watson.

She is survived by one sister, Jeannine Harding and her husband, Kenneth, of Eddy, Texas along with her nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials made to Hewitt United Methodist Church of Hewitt or First United Methodist Church of San Marcos.
