Emily Hope

Emily L. Hendrix Johnson Hope, 89, of Waco, died Monday, June 9, 2014 at a local nursing home. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with her family will be from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday the 11th at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Drive.

Emily was born August 30, 1924 in Austin to Lewis R. Hendrix and Emily J. Reese Hendrix. She grew up around the Gholson area where she attended school. Emily married Edward L. Johnson the 12th of December 1942. She lived with her sister-in-law, Irene Hendrix, while their husbands were serving their country. Edward was killed in action at Normandy on D-Day June 6, 1944 leaving Emily with a two month old son.

January of 1947, Emily married Woodrow Hope. Her life centered around God and family. She enjoyed fishing, camping, being with her family and friends and going to church. Emily also was known to enjoy going to the flea market and setting up a booth selling items and meeting the people at the market. She excelled at sewing, cooking and at being a wonderful person. Emily attended Kendrick Baptist Church. She will be dearly missed as her passing has left a void in our lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Edward L. Johnson; her second husband, Woodrow H. Hope; two adopted sons, Ronnie and Tommy Hope; brothers, Charles, Owen, Joe, Jimmy and Roy Hendrix; her sisters, Dorothy Hoffman and Georgia Gates.

Emily is survived by her son, Leslie E. Johnson and wife, Delores of Hewitt; grandchildren, Les Johnson Jr of Hewitt, Traci Honeycutt and husband, Lee, of Roanoke, Lindsey Parker and husband, Jay, of Crawford and Lacey Sandhoff and husband, Shane, of China Spring; great grandchildren, Kimberly McKee and husband, Jacob, Trey Johnson and wife, Connie, Lance and Tatum Honeycutt, Bradley and Blake Sandhoff and Emily and Presley Parker; two brothers, Floyd Hendrix and wife, Ann and David Hendrix and wife, Leslie; several great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
