Elton Roberts

On Tuesday May 19,2009 Elton Warren Roberts, 93 departed this life to begin it anew in his eternal home. He was born October 15, 1915, in Fayette County, Texas, to Roy Ross Roberts and Katherine Hannegan Roberts. In 1934 he married Vera Jackson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Vera, his parents, and his stepmother, Lula Mae Roberts, a brother, R.L. Scallorn, a step-brother, John Eason, and his two sons, E. Wade Roberts and Royce A. Roberts and wife, Barbara.

Elton was active all his adult life in a local Baptist church wherever he lived. Among these was, Muldoon Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Friendswood where he was a charter member and a strong influence in the establishment of that church in 1956. He worked for what is now ExxonMobil Pipeline until his retirement. During his retirement, he enjoyed raising cattle on his farm near Smithville.

He is survived by his daughter, Nelda, and her husband Ken Weldon of Waco, daughter-in-law, Beverly Roberts of Dallas, his brother Edward Roberts and wife, Mona, of Jacksonville, sister, Cay Thomas of Texas City, six grandchildren: Royce W. Roberts of Corpus Christi and Raymond Roberts and wife, Melissa, of Texas City, Wyndell Weldon and wife, Yonie, of Bastrop, Brent Weldon and wife, Lena, of Alvin, Jan and husband, Tim Roberts, of Tyler, Jill and husband, Barrett Bott of Colleyville, twelve great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

Visitation and viewing will be form 7-9PM on Friday at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at the chapel at Pitman Cemetery in Muldoon, TX on Saturday, May 23, at 1:30PM. Burial will follow there at the cemetery. Please sign the online guest book at www.gracegardensfh.com.
