On Thursday, October 15, Eleanora Helene “Nona” Carini Hankins, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother passed away at the age of 97.
Nona was born on September 26, 1923 in Bardi, Italy to Joseph and Mary (Rollieri) Carini. On June 13, 1946, she married Thomas Stayton Hankins in Paris, France, then immigrated to the United States as a war bride and settled in her husband’s hometown of Quanah,Texas, where they raised three daughters, Sheryle, Barbara, and Jeanene, and one son, David.
Nona had a passion for creating memorable experiences through cooking, baking, sewing, and decorating her home. She loved spending time with her family and friends and was an avid supporter of the Dallas Cowboys. She was known for her infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit. The mark she made on our Iives will always be with us, and we are all better humans, with a greater understanding of love, because she lived.
Nona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 36 years, two brothers, a sister, and one daughter (Barbara Dosher), and one granddaughter (Teta Morton).
Left to carry on her legacy are her children, Sheryle Carini, Jeanene Morton (Rudy), David Hankins (Julie); her grandchildren, Matthew Simper, Eric Simper (Tiffani), Heather Hankins Beck (Ryan), Katie Dosher Grisham (Jacob), Christy Staas Barton (Kevin), Melanie Staas Boening (Christopher), Elliott Hankins (Kristen), and Evan Hankins (Halley); Glenn Morton (Kris), Gaylinn Morton, Garinn Morton, Koki Morton Hall (Mike), Gennoa Morton Alexander (Mark), Rashonda Morton Maze (Jammie); great grandchildren, Jacob Bethke, Hannah Barton Pechacek (Noah), Bailee Barton, Ethan Simper, Sophia Simper, Dax Hawkins, Julia Beck, Wyatt Boening, Grayson Boening, Ellie Grisham, Michelle Morton Lywood (Geoff), Gracie Morton, Patrick Morton, Alex Morton, Luke Morton, Ryan Hall, Sky Hall, Drew Alexander, Zoei Alexander, Aiden Maze, and Payton Maze. And her great great grandchildren, Aaron Alexander and Livia Lywood.
Pallbearers will be: Matthew Simper, Kevin Barton, Christopher Boening, Ryan Beck, Elliott Hankins, and Evan Hankins
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Anthony’s Care Center and Bluebonnet Hospice for providing gentle comfort during a difficult time, and to First United Methodist Church of Hewitt for their loving support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Hewitt.
