Mr. E. L. “Ed” Gummelt, age 92 of Woodway, went to be with his Lord, with his family at his side Sunday, January 29, 2023. Ed loved his family dearly and was a beloved “Paw Paw” to them. The funeral service will be Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, Woodway, Texas. Internment and a family graveside service will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. A Visitation with the family will be 5-7 pm, Monday, February 6, 2023 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Ed was born in Washington County, Texas on August 20, 1930, the son of the late Erwin and Laura Gummelt. He had 1 brother, John and 1 sister, Ardell. He graduated from Rosebud High School in 1948. He bravely served his country in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1956. He worked for the same company throughout his career. He began at Cameron Wholesale which later became National Building Centers Inc, NBC of Texas, Boise Cascade, and finally Lowe’s Industries. Throughout his career he traveled and supervised the construction of new stores in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. He retired in 1991.
Ed enjoyed worshiping the Lord at First Baptist Church of Woodway, sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys, fishing and hunting, cooking, following the stock market, and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Pat, drove thousands of miles over the state of Texas to see his grandchildren’s sporting events and be a part of their other activities. He was involved in church functions at FBC/Woodway and was on a committee for growth with the City of Woodway.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Laura, brother John, his first wife, Edna Gummelt and son, Brian Gummelt.
Ed is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pat Gummelt of Woodway, son, Greg Gummelt (wife Janet) of Whitney, and stepson Michael Bullington of Lubbock. Ed had four grandchildren, Stephen Gummelt of Van, Kaitie Franklin (husband Grant) of Canton, Brian Gummelt of Keller, and Shane Bailey of Waxahachie, three great grandchildren, Tristan, Creed, and Zayne and one sister, Ardell Jiles.
Ed was greatly loved by us all and will be extremely missed.
