Edith Phillips

Edith Szenasy Phillips, 88, of McGregor, Texas died May 29th, 2012 at Regent Care Center of Woodway. She was born July 22nd, 1923 to Sam and Ethel Szenasy in Corsicana, TX where she grew up and attended elementary and high school. Edith worked 18 years for the First National Bank of Corsicana and later married her husband of 43 years, Waco auto dealer, Maynard J Phillips. The couple eventually settled in Waco Texas where Edith continued in the banking business for a number of years. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Waco since 1968 serving on many volunteer committees and lending her time to many service organizations throughout the community. Edith was an exceptional athlete and avid sports enthusiast. She played basketball for the Dr Pepper women’s team of Corsicana and was a member of various bowling leagues. She never missed the opportunity to root on her favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks and faithfully cheered for the Texas Longhorns.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband Maynard J Phillips and sisters Margaret Sullivan, Ethel Lord, and Helen Warner Gilcrease.

She is survived by her daughter Theresa Flanagan and her husband Tim of McGregor, TX. Grandchildren: Tim Flanagan and his wife Melanie of McGregor, TX, Mark Flanagan and wife Amy of Woodway, TX, and Cathy Flanagan of Dallas, TX. Great Grandchildren: Carson Flanagan, Hudson Flanagan, Kellan Flanagan, and Kyndal Flanagan. Brother: Sam Szenasy of Tulsa, OK and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family expresses a special thanks to longtime faithful caregiver, Vicenta Huerto, who was always by her side. Thanks to Rachel Degrate and the team at Bluebonnet Hospice as well as the Regent Care staff, especially Shereil Cross and Carolyn Wilson.

Visitation to be held at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Woodway, TX on Thursday, May 31st, from 6-8pm . Graveside services to be held at Resthaven Memorial Park in Corsicana, TX on Friday, June 1st at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fuzzy Friends Rescue, Mailing Address: P.O. Box 20966 Waco, Texas 76702 in honor of any of her beloved pets, Boston Terriers, Sampson and Susie or her rescue kitty Dee Dee.
