Edgar Luedeker

Edgar Luedeker passed from this life Monday February 8, 2016, at the age of 92. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thurs. Feb. 11, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor with Pastor Chris Farrow officiating. Interment will follow in Waco Memorial Park under the direction of Grace Gardens Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.

Mr. Luedeker was born March 8, 1923, in McGregor, Texas, the son of the late Will and Annie (Witt) Luedeker where he received his education. At an early age, on May 3, 1941, he married Rena Belle Andrews in McGregor. He was confirmed in the Crawford Lutheran Church. After returning from the Navy during World War II, he changed his membership to Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor where he has been an active member. He served the church as president of the congregation, a former member of the Brotherhood, Church board and usher. Before entering the military service he was employed for five weeks by the Blue Bonnet Ordnance Plant which made bombs for World War II. Upon his discharge in 1946, he returned home and was employed by Western Auto in McGregor. He later was employed by General Tire in Waco for thirty-eight years. After General Tire closed, he worked for the American Red Cross in hospital services for the next seventeen years, taking blood to hospitals in Texas and Oklahoma until his 2001 retirement.

He and his wife Rena enjoyed their retirement years and visiting their grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Rena Belle Luedeker; a daughter, Betty Gatlin; a sister, Lillian Fendrick; two grandsons, Brad Gatlin and wife Cindy, Coley Gatlin and wife Andrea; six great grandchildren, Caroline Gatlin, Claire Gatlin, Brandt Gatlin, Nathanael Gatlin, McKenna Gatlin, Will Gatlin and several nieces and nephews.
