Earl Ray Smith of Moody passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, at the age of 76. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at First United Methodist Church of Moody with Rev. Josh Pruitt officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Naler Cemetery under the direction of Grace Gardens Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Dr. Waco.
Mr. Smith was born December 21, 1940, in Waco, Texas, the son of the late William N. and Ruby Ethel (Naler) Smith and graduated from Moody High School. From 1958 until 1962, he served his country in the United States Army.
For about twenty years, he owned and operated an auto mechanic shop and later was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for Waco Machinery and Parts. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting arrowheads and reading Louis L’Amour Westerns.
Also preceding him in death was his brother, Jerry Smith.
Survivors include a son, Keith Smith and wife Elisha; two daughters, Julie Humphries and husband Jon, Tamra Bates; a brother, Dan Smith; two sisters, Johnnie Farmer, Jan Hubbard and husband Loye; eighteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
