Dr. Joan B. Peoples, 77, longtime Berea resident, passed away September 18, 2014 in Waco, Texas, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Crocker Peoples.
Joan was born September 20, 1936, to R. Keith and Mary-Lou Brown Blakely in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and received her Masters in Psychology at Eastern Kentucky University, followed by her Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky. She practiced for many years as a clinical psychologist. She also devoted decades of volunteer service with the League of Women Voters, including serving a term as state president and representing Kentucky at the national convention.
Joan will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her children, David (Lisa) Peoples, Jennifer (Steve) Rich, Allen (Jackie) Peoples; grandchildren; Catherine, Erin, Zachary, Brian, Adam, Emily; and brothers Bruce Blakely and Blair Blakely. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Garth Blakely
A memorial service will be held in Berea in the spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated.
