Dorothy Shavers Moore age 84, of Waco passed away Saturday April 7, 2012 at a local nursing facility. Grave Side Services will be 10AM Monday at Waco Memorial Park with Pastor David Thompson officiating.
Dorothy Shavers Moore, born October 18, 1927 in Albany, Texas. Moved to Waco, Texas at an early age.
Dorothy graduated from Waco High. She married Bobby Ray Moore and they were blessed with 59 years of marriage.
In 1963, while living in Irving, Texas, Dorothy became one in a group of the first 8 policewomen in the State of Texas. A woman way ahead of her time, She eventually moved back to Waco and retired from Word Records.
Dorothy Moore was preceded in death by her husband in 2005, grandson, Garette and her only brother, Fred Shavers Jr. She is survived by 3 children, Robert and wife Kate Moore of Windsor, Colo., daughter Dianne Moore and husband Larry Neal of Lorena, Texas and Don and wife Terry Moore of McGregor. Dorothy is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Kelly and Danny Barrera of Colorado, granddaughter-in-law Kara Moore of California and Heather and Brian Steele of Robinson. Also survived by great-grandchildren Ashley, Koby, Alexandra, Quinton, Derek, Kassie, and Kyle. She leaves behind her very special friend Audrey Sills and her kitty cat Ms. Molly.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Royal Manor Nursing Home for their wonderful care while she was living there.
