Dorothy LaVohn Blanks

July 30, 1941 — September 2, 2024

Hewitt, Texas

Dorothy LaVohn Blanks, a radiant soul who graced the world with her presence from July 30, 1941, until September 2, 2024, departed this life in the quiet serenity of her home in Hewitt, Texas. Born in Comanche, Texas, Dorothy embodied the spirit of a true Texan—warm, inviting, and fiercely resilient.

A devoted hairdresser, Dorothy spent her career carving out connections in the vibrant Houston area. She was a graduate of Waller High School, and then attended Dickinson Beauty School in 1970. She coaxed smiles out of her clients with a friendly conversation while styling their hair. Her mantra, "Don't believe everything you're told," resonated with those who knew her well; it was a reminder of her independent spirit and unwavering belief in authenticity.

Dorothy’s personality was one of kindness. She effortlessly made friends wherever she went. She had a strong work ethic that paid off when traveling in her R.V. with Grady.

Her passions spilled over into her personal life as well; Dorothy was an avid R.V. traveler, often taking adventurous jaunts. She found peace and joy in hobbies like sewing, knitting, gardening, cooking, and painting.

Yet, some of her happiest moments were spent crabbing at Kemah, Texas, with her daughters. Evening bike rides brought the family together. Dorothy cherished her role as a mother, pouring her love and life lessons into her daughters, proud of how they blossomed into remarkable women—her proudest accomplishment.

Dorothy's legacy lives on not only through her daughters, Kim Perry and husband Craig, Kathy Clafferty and husband Mike, but also through her grandchildren, Danielle Solis and husband Mario, Jessica Perry, Jacob Clafferty, McKenzie Clafferty, and her great grandchild, Elena Solis. Each of them carries a piece of her spirit, a reminder of her unconditional love and steadfast support. She is also lovingly remembered by her brother, Vernon Thornton, and her faithful companion, Buddy.

Dorothy joins her beloved husband, Grady, in eternal rest.

Dorothy LaVohn Blanks, with her cherished memories and bright spirit, will be forever missed but never forgotten, her life a testament to love, friendship, and the enduring beauty of family.
