Dora Lee Welch, born on January 17, 1946, peacefully passed away in her sleep on February 26, 2024. As a native of Austin, Texas, her early life was filled with a love for horses and guns, fostering a spirit of adventure and independence. In later years, she found joy in marrying Tommy Welch and settling down in Waco.
An esteemed bus driver for Robinson ISD, Dora dedicated her days to ensuring the safe transportation of countless students, a role she performed with diligence and care. Her hobbies reflected her love for the Wild West - from watching classic western films to spending time with her beloved dogs and honing her marksmanship skills.
Having faced the loss of her husband, Tommy, and daughter-in-law, Debra, Dora is survived by her son, Daniel Calk, daughter, Rhonda Calk, and dear brother, Floyd Cantrell, along with a host of cherished grandchildren. In honor of her memory, pallbearers will include Daniel, Luke, and Adam Calk, as well as William Speed.
Graveside services to celebrate Dora's life will be 11 am, Monday, March 4 Oak Grove Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Sunday, March 3rd at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. The ceremony will be a time of remembrance and reflection, offering friends and family the chance to pay their final respects to a woman who left an indelible mark on those around her.
The family extends their gratitude to Alamo Hospice and Woodland Spring Nursing Home for their compassionate care of Dora during her final days, and to Grace Gardens Funeral Home for their devoted care to her family.
Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew her, forever remembered for her strength, kindness, and unwavering love. May she rest in peace.
