Donald Ray Richardson passed away Monday, October 4, 2010, at his home. Don, the son of Maude “Patsy” Walker Richardson and Henry Reginald Richardson, Sr., was born in Waco, Texas, on May 28, 1947. He graduated from Waco High School in 1965, and served in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam Conflict.
Don believed in “working to live, and not living to work”. He was an accomplished woodworker, and worked for many years at L.L. Sams & Sons Church Furniture Manufacturing Company, and then worked for Martin Tools until he retired. In spite of many setbacks due to failing health, Don remained cheerful and upbeat about his situation. Doctors and nurses involved in his care said he was a model patient, and an inspiration to other disabled Veterans with whom he came in contact. He will be greatly missed. The family wishes to express its most sincere appreciation for all the help and care Don received through the Veterans’ Administration and the VA Hospitals in Waco and Temple.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and Alta Faye Headrick whose ashes will be interred simultaneously. Don leaves behind three sons: Danny Richardson, Kris Headrick, and Donald Shane Richardson; one grandson: Liam Michael Richardson; one brother: Henry R. “Reggie” Richardson, Jr. and wife, Sheron Stough Richardson; one niece: Debra Lynn Richardson Henderson, her husband, Todd and daughters, Dallas Anne and Gracie Ruth; and one nephew: Reginald Eugene and wife, Lorraine “Lori” Richardson; and too many close, loving and caring friends to list.
A private Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Donald Ray Richardson will be held at Oakwood Cemetery Friday morning, October 8, 2010, at 9:30 A.M.
