“The Man, The Myth, The Legend”
Donald Ray Groseclose, 82, of Waco, passed away March 17, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. Don was an exceptionally brave man, who never met a stranger and dedicated his life to bringing joy and laughter to others.
A memorial visitation in Don's honor will be from 5pm to 7pm, Friday, March 28, 2025 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place at 2pm, Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Don was born October 2, 1942 to Ruby and Dorman Groseclose in Roswell, New Mexico, where he spent the majority of his childhood. The family then moved to South Texas, where he loved helping at his dad’s Dairy Queen. They eventually relocated to Waco, Texas, where the family established a permanent residence. Don attended Connally High School where he made many lifelong friends. Voted all-school favorite, class president, most athletic, and captain of the football team were some of his many honors. He was offered numerous scholarships to play football and baseball, but chose to care of his sick father. Don attended Durham Business College, and Baylor University, where he was a member of the NoZe Brotherhood.
Don married the love of his life, Wanda Faye Brock, on June 7, 1963. As he once said, “Sometimes someone unexpected comes into your life outta nowhere, makes your heart race, and changes you forever.” Wanda was that person for him—his rock, his greatest love, and his unwavering caretaker. Four years later, they welcomed their daughter, Kimberly Ann, who became the light of his world. Don was an incredible father, and the bond he shared with Kim was truly special. He loved her dearly. When his granddaughters, Nicole and Danielle Dunigan, came along, they stole his heart all over again. They were all “his girls” and he loved them more than words could ever say.
Don worked as a cost accountant for Cameron Mills and as a manager for Sherwin Williams in Lubbock and San Antonio. Wanting to get back to his roots, they returned to Waco where he established a Paint Contracting business.
Don had many passions. He showed and judged horses, and later formed the Heart of Texas Quarter Horse Association. He also loved to fish and hunt. He won many striper tournaments locally and out of state. He also loved taking his boat, “Hey Cowboy” fishing offshore. The love of fishing led him to buy Bass World Tackle Shop. He also managed and hunted many deer leases.
Don was a devoted husband for nearly sixty-two years, a father, grandfather, and friend known for his witty sense of humor, generosity, wisdom, and many jokes. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Groseclose, daughter Kim Dunigan and son-in-law Todd, granddaughters Nicole and Danielle Dunigan. He was preceded in death by his parents Ruby and Dorman Groseclose, and brother A.D. Groseclose.
Even though Don had suffered for years, he was consistently grateful for his life, family, and friends. For those who knew him, “Don says…You don’t stop laughing because you get old, you get old because you stop laughing.” He never stopped laughing, and he will be deeply missed.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff who have provided exceptional care throughout the years. A special thank you to Waco Cardiology, for over 50 years of dedicated care. Your kindness will always be remembered.
