Dixie Belle Lynch, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away September 28, 2024 in Waco, Texas, after a battle against cancer. She was born on February 21, 1949, in Port Angeles, Washington, and grew up in Yelm, Washington.
Dixie's unwavering love for her family was evident throughout her life. She is survived by her devoted husband, Raye Lynch, with whom she shared a profound partnership for over 56 years. Dixie is also survived by her son Hal and his wife Alysia, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Catherine and Michael Lynch. Her siblings, Bette Daugherty, Bill Turner, and Bob Turner, and great grandchild Adrian Lynch-Knight, will lovingly remember her vibrant spirit and the times they shared.
A proud veteran, Dixie served as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1968, demonstrating her commitment to service and resilience.
Dixie's professional journey began after receiving her LVN from North Harris County College and later earning a Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree from Texas Woman's University.
For a decade, she worked alongside Raye but after their relocation to Waco, Texas she was driven by her passion for helping others, and found her calling in nursing. She was particularly proud of her position as a nurse at Ascension Providence DePaul Center. Dixie's dedication to her profession reflected her nurturing personality.
Beyond her exemplary career, Dixie had a variety of interests. She approached life with a zest for fun, often filling her home and wardrobe with color. She found joy in sewing, creating cherished garments that spanned generations, from prom dresses to wedding dresses to suits for Raye. She was a skilled seamstress.
Dixie shared many happy moments riding motorcycles with Raye along the coast, where they fed seagulls and felt the ocean breeze. Gardening was another passion of hers; she had a remarkable green thumb, which she lovingly passed down to some of her family members.
Dixie will be deeply missed, not just for her nurturing spirit and infectious laughter, but for the profound impact she made on her family and friends' lives. She is predeceased by her daughter Laurie Lynch Sappington, her mother Connie Turner, her father Richard Turner, and her beloved grandparents.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM, both at Grace Gardens Funeral. Dixie's final resting place will be at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery in Houston, Texas, where a burial service will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM.
