Debra Beckmann, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and nurse, passed away on March 21, 2025, in Waco, Texas, surrounded by her loved ones.
Debra was born on January 2, 1955, in Houston, Texas. She spent her childhood in Girl Scouts, youth group activities, and running around with her lifelong best friend, Darlene Mott. She earned her Associate’s degree in Nursing and found her calling as a Registered Nurse at Providence Hospital in Waco.
Debra’s life was a testament to her nurturing spirit and boundless love. She discovered her passion for caregiving early, tending to her ailing mother, Rachael, and helping her sister Myra with her newborn niece, Julie, all while balancing school and church activities.
On a blind date at Sam Houston State University, she met the love of her life, Dwight Beckmann. They married on May 15, 1976, in Woodville, Texas, and built a beautiful life together, raising their three children Kara, Laura, and Todd, whom she cherished as her greatest joy.
Later, the Lord blessed her with the birth of her grandchildren Wyatt, Michaela, and Harper. Debra loved nothing more than cheering at their sporting events or spending after-school time together, always with a smile on her face despite her own health challenges.
Debra was preceded in death by her mother, Rachael Geraldine Harper Curry, and her father, David Branch Curry.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Dwight Beckmann; her children, Kara Crawford and husband Dustin, Laura Beckmann, and Todd Beckmann and wife Beth Ann; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Wyatt Beckmann, Michaela Crawford, and Harper Beckmann; and her sister, Myra Swearingen.
Debra lived for her family, her nursing career, and supporting those touched by breast cancer, which was a cause close to her heart. She will be remembered as a loving and caring daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, and grandmother, whose happiness touched everyone she met.
A visitation in her honor will be at 5:00pm, Friday, April 4, 2025 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Waco, Texas. A celebration of Debra’s life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
The family extends a special thank you to Bluebonnet Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Cancer Association, honoring Debra’s dedication to those impacted by cancer. She’ll be missed more than words can say and we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace in God’s loving embrace.
