David Samuel Phillips

December 18, 1951 — August 16, 2023

Waco, Texas

David Samuel Phillips, born December 18, 1951, in Hartford, Connecticut. Grew up in Encinitas, California. Left southern California for college and there met his bride in York, Nebraska. Established home in Texas after birth of first child where he became an entrepreneur/small business owner.

Known and loved by many - he cherished his wife of 51 years, his four children, his 13 grandchildren. Greatest times were game nights, cheering on the band/football/basketball/ju jitsu teams, camping trips that were better than 5 star, visiting Texas State Parks, and Texas trekking - going every direction through bluebonnet season, Promise Keepers Rallies, handyman for everything on Beth’s honey-do list! Dave wore so many titles - small business owner, Youth Group Ministry leader, Life Group leader, PTA President, Deacon, mobile church organizer, Bacon Dave, Cowboy Dave, Casa advocate, Stars reading buddy, good friend, beloved husband, Dad, Grampy, but above all these, chosen by God, his King. Dave was a continuing education student of God’s Word - always hungry for truth, learning how to speak the truth in love. He certainly learned to be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer - Romans 12:12.

This last year has been a year of preparation. Dave has completed the race here on earth. We have been sustained and cared for through this valley.  We thank God not only for our family support but also for our Antioch Life Group, our church fellowship - Renew Church, Gentle Transitions Hospice Care, and Grace Gardens.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents Oliver & Mary Phillips; brother, Edward L. Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Beth Mingle Phillips; four children: Marijoy (Ben) Horton, David Reynolds-Rice (Cristina) Phillips, Bethany (Logan) Phillips Gage, and Tim Phillips; 13 precious grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
