Daryl Lee “Bam Bam” Farmer, from Waco, Texas was born to Melissa and Jimmy Lee Farmer on December 6, 1984. Daryl died on March 9, 2011 when he and his fiancé Karmin Tergerson Brown slept soundly in their bed as early that morning their home caught fire and burned.
Daryl’s father Jimmy Lee Farmer was well known by many Mclennan County residents as a race car driver at the Heart of Texas Motor Speedway. To Daryl, his father was a hero. Daryl devoted his life to race cars, RC airplanes, and RC cars. When Daryl met his soul mate Karmin, he devoted the rest of his life to her too. For the countless people who knew and loved him, Daryl answered to nicknames like Red or Pooh Bear. This broad shouldered 6’ 1” young man even allowed some of the local children to call him Muffin. But one name he earned that almost everyone in the community can agree on is “Bam Bam” because of his gladiator like strength. No matter how careful he tried to be, “Bam Bam’s” physical gift of strength always managed to break virtually unbreakable objects such as hammers, wrenches, and numerous other heavy duty tools. Also, if he was not around to loosen the cap, plastic bottles would have to be cut into after “Bam Bam” gently hand-tightened them, something his loving guardians Michelle Phillips and Sandy Stroud aka, “The Mom’s” knew all too well. While family and friends knew Daryl for his passion of race cars and fishing; only a select few knew of his newly found passion for the game of disc golf. Daryl enjoyed spending his free time at the local parks with his newfound friends of the National Disc Golf Association, of which he was also a member, playing disc golf in the Bam Bam fashion by throwing his disc to land at farther distances than most any other on the course. Daryl’s relationship with his lifelong best friend, Colton Stroud, endured hardships through school and life but because of their brotherly love for one another, their friendship never wavered. The whole community will be deeply affected with his passing. Daryl would drop anything he was doing to help someone in need. To Daryl, the urgency of the need never mattered, it could have required him to help a stranded friend or doing something as simple as opening up a jelly jar, and Daryl would be there to save the day. However, for the past five years, his soul mate Karmin was always there by his side to offer a hand or cheer him on, neither one of them was rarely seen without the other. During his time with Karmin, he did anything he could to impress her. So, remember him as, son, brother, grandson, loving fiancée or friend. But we know him as Daryl, Red, Pooh Bear, Muffin, or Bam Bam. Yet the new name that he would have been most proud to hear is Daddy.
Daryl’s passing joins him with his father Jimmy Lee Farmer. Daryl is survived by his mother, Melissa Farmer; brother, Bryan Farmer; step-father, Lance Smith; loving guardians, Michelle Phillips and Sandy Stroud; grandmother, Patsy Arney; grandmother Barbara Farmer; uncle Larry Farmer, father and mother –in-law Richard and Jennifer Brown; step-brother Aaron Davis; step-sister, Rachael Davis, and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
