Danny Ray Watson, 69, of Lorena, passed away December 24, 2016 in Waco. Funeral services for Mr. Watson will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, December 29, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Waco, with burial at 3:30 p.m., at the Richland Cemetery in Mertens, Texas. A visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Danny was born July 1, 1947 in Frost, Texas, to Woodrow Wilson and Thelma Juanita McNeel Watson. Danny coached girls' softball for 15 years and influenced many young girls' lives. He loved fishing and spending time with his seven grandchildren Danny retired from Texas State Technical College after 29 years, where he was an instructor in the Mechanical Engineering Department. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.
Danny is survived by his wife, Sue, of Lorena, who he married March 18, 1967, in Mertens, in the same church in which he was baptized. He is also survived by his daughter, Lora Sykora and husband, Matt, of Lorena; his son, Clinton Ray Watson and wife, Cheryl, of Wimberley; two brothers, Dwayne Watson and wife, Patsy, of Mertens, and Bronny Watson and wife, Ruth Ann, of Corsicana; brother-in-law, Jackie Helton and wife, Janet, of Lorena; father-in-law, Hughey Helton of Irene, Texas; and seven grandchildren, Reid, Owen, Dylan, Wyatt Watson, Brock, Addison, and Avery Sykora.
