Biography

Dale Alan Berry, formerly of Waco, passed away in his home in Austin in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 28th, surrounded by family and good friends. A memorial service will be held at Grace Gardens Funeral Home at 8220 Woodway Drive (Highway 84 W.) in Waco on Saturday January 30, at 2 p.m. with Rev. C. Reginald King presiding.

Dale was born November 1, 1955, in Waco to Finis and Bobbie Jean (Sanders) Berry. He married Dawn Browne of Independence, Virginia on March 17, 1984, and had one son, Zachary Keeton Berry.

Dale was a historian at heart and an ardent reader, mostly American, World War II, and Texas History. He was a real patriot and true Texan. He received his schooling in the LaVega School systems, from first grade through graduation, and then attended MCC before moving to Austin in 1976. He was a member of Timber Crest Baptist Church of Waco.

Dale was preceded in death by his father on May 30, 2009. His survivors include his son, Zach of Chicago, IL and Zach's mother Dawn, of Virginia; Dale's mother, Bobbie Jean; his sister Debra Money and husband Curtis of Wichita Falls; brother David and wife Nancy of Plano, and youngest brother Dean, of Waco; and his many friends and neighbors who have been so faithful to him.

Honorary pallbearers are Brad Hughes, Stephen Journeay, Randy Harkrider, Greg Swantech, Paul Madden, Terry Thompson and other buddies that joined them in Dale's garage to work on their various woodwork projects.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the compassionate Hospice workers who took such good care of Dale during his last days at home. They include Tania Watkins, Hospice Nurse, Brian King, Nurse Practitioner, Anne Hagmann, Hospice Chaplain, and Christina Perez, social worker.
