Coby Meinzer

Coby Lynn Meinzer, 50, of Hewitt, Texas passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 following a lengthy battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig disease. Coby was born in Hico, Texas on November 20, 1967, to parents Larry and Claudale Meinzer. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am, Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at Harris Creek Baptist Church, 401 Stageline drive, McGregor. A visitation with the family will be 5 – 7 pm, Friday, March 9th, 2018 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.


Coby was the Salutatorian of the 1986 graduating class of China Spring High School, where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. His many achievements included being named to the 1985 Super CenTex Academic Team, leading all offensive players with the highest GPA. His academic achievements during High School earned him the Dick Smith Scholarship to attend Tarleton State University’s Engineering School. Following entrance into the program, he followed his true ambition of teaching and coaching, eventually changing his major to Education. After earning his degree in 1992, he coached at Breckenridge, Groesbeck, Dalhart, Lubbock High, Amarillo Tascosa, Mansfield and Waco Midway. In 2011, Coby was presented with an opportunity to join the private sector and after much consideration he agreed to leave education. At the time of his ALS diagnosis, he was serving as President of Kase Custom Conveyors located in Whitney, Texas.


Coby is survived by his wife of 21 years, Laura; children Caden and Layne; his parents Larry and Claudale; brother, Lance Meinzer and sister-in-law Janice of Huntsville. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who are considered brothers and sisters through organizations such as the Tarleton State University Purple Poo and the Fraternity Kappa Alpha.


The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the ALS Association, Texas Chapter Austin Office, 1315 Sam Bass Circle Suite B5, Round Rock, Texas 78681 or to Harris Creek Baptist Church, 401 Stageline Dr., McGregor, Texas 76657.
