Clifford Brown, Jr.

Clifford Cooper Brown, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at age 88. Clifford was born in Waco on August 13, 1936 to Clifford Cooper Brown, Sr. and Bessie Marthalia Mullins Brown. He was a 1955 Waco High School (Tiger) graduate and attended Texas A&M and also took classes at Baylor. He proudly supported both universities. He served in the US Army from 1959 – 1962 as a topographic surveyor in Stuttgart, Germany. As a construction project manager for Fluor, Inc., Clifford supervised the building of berths in Alaska at the terminus of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, a petrochemical tank farm for Sunoco in Puerto Rico, a copper mining operation in Irian Jaya, Indonesia, refinery burnout reconstruction in Puerto Rico and Metairie, Louisiana, and building facilities for Sadaf in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Closer to home, he managed a remodel project at the Waco Regional Airport terminal, the construction of women’s prisons in Marlin and in Gatesville, a men’s prison in El Paso, as well as, the Travis County Criminal Justice Facility in Austin.

He continued his career managing the building of school facilities for Midway ISD and La Vega ISD including Midway High School, several elementary schools, River Valley Middle School, and La Vega Primary and Middle Schools. He finished his career with post-construction duties for Waco ISD.

While living in Puerto Rico, he earned his private pilot’s license and flew throughout the Caribbean islands with his family and friends. Clifford earned his IFR, Commercial, and Multi-engine ratings while living in Southern California and Alaska.

Clifford was a devoted dad engaged in his children’s activities by serving as the baseball commissioner in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, founding Cubmaster of Pack 454 in Speegleville, Boy Scout Troop 456 Committee Member in Woodway, Speegleville PTA president, and coaching various T-ball teams.

Clifford was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Hewitt where he served in various capacities. His confirmation verse was from Romans 1:16. “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.”

Predeceasing him were his parents, brother Charles Clair Brown, cousin Marilee Wright, in-laws Victor and Virginia Oberg, brother-in-law Alan Oberg, sister-in-law Sheila Meier, and niece Miranda Adams.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years Victoria (Vicky), his sons Russell (Kelly), Randall (Melissa), Ronald, and daughter Robin, granddaughters Kirsten (Hassan) and Heather, and great-grandsons Ayan and Ramy.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 22 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Woodway from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Clifford’s funeral service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, 9301 Panther Way, Hewitt on Wednesday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Hillcrest Hospital, Ascension Providence Village Rehabilitation, and Ascension Providence Hospice caregivers for their loving care of Clifford. Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church, 9301 Panther Way, Waco, TX. 76712.
