Clara Mae Williams, a faithful follower of Jesus, went home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2025. She was surrounded by her son, Larry and his wife, Cyndy. Clara lived a long life that was full of much love, joy, and faithful service to Jesus. There will be a celebration of life May 3 at 10:30 AM at the Crestview Church of Christ. A visitation with the family will be held on the same day starting at 9:30 AM at Crestview.
Clara was born April 12,1930 in Waco Texas to VJ and Wilma Conaway. In her early years, she lived in both Waco and Lakeview and proved she a was a high achiever from a young age. Upon her family’s move to Meridian, TX she helped her dad on the farm, skipped a grade, and graduated from Meridian High School at age 16 in 1946. Her life forever changed when she started dating a childhood friend, Fred Williams. They were married July 10, 1948, at the Lakeview Church of Christ. Fred and Clara had a wonderful marriage for 62 years.
Clara dreamed of being a mother, but after trying unsuccessfully to have children, she fulfilled her greatest desire by adopting Larry, and then two years later Karen from the Lubbock Christian Children’s Home in Lubbock, Texas.
Clara was a wonderful servant of the Lord. Her and Fred served the Elm Mott church for 20 years and then moved to the Crestview Church where Fred became an elder. They were known throughout as a kind couple that greeted all visitors and served those that were hurting. Many people received Clara‘s famous buttermilk pound cake as a welcome to the church or support in a time of need.
On February 5, 2010, Fred went home to be with Jesus. Clara lived another 15 years and though she missed him greatly, she continued to make a difference in peoples’ lives. She also enjoyed going to visit Larry, Cyndy and their boys in both Michigan and New Mexico. Recently, one of her great joys was to meet her great grandchildren: Charlotte, Leo and Isabel who helped her celebrate her 94th birthday last year.
Clara was proceeded in death by her mother and father, Wilma and VJ, her sister Parrie Willie and her beloved husband Fred and many other family and friends. She is survived by her son, Larry (Cyndy) of Woodway, her daughter Karen Nolen (Mike) of Hewitt; six grandchildren, Kevin Williams (Blair) of Chicago, IL, Kyle Williams of Elkhart, IN, Cody Williams (Emily) of Flushing, MI, Christopher Nolen, Jeff Nolen, and Melissa Nolen of Hewitt. Three beloved great grandchildren Charlotte, Leo, and Isabel Williams of Flushing, MI and several other family members and many, many friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Clara‘s caretaker Betty Batts, Accent Care Hospice of Waco, the Crestview Church of Christ and the Henry-Williams life group for their care and compassion during her last days. Most of all to her daughter-in-law, Cyndy, who took care of her for the past six years.
