Charley William Barlow Jr. , 83, of Woodway, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015. A visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at a later date at Bosqueville Cemetery.
Dad was a very devoted family man, supporter, and provider for the upbringing of his children ( according to him; Mom was the teacher). His early profession was a machinist for Mercury Tool, Rocketdyne, General Tire, farming, raising gardens; whatever it took to provide. He began a sideline job of building water tanks in the mid 70's, that later became Barlow Tank Inc. that is still owned and operated by his son and grandson. Upon retirement in the mid 90's, he bought a motor home and toured the U.S. and Canada. Around ten years later his eyesight no longer allowed him to drive , but he didn't give up. His new passion was to live within the Waco City Limits ( so he had a bus access) flower gardening and "shooting Craps". He became well known in Shreveport with his weekly bus trips. Anyone living in the Woodway area had probably seen him walking to Wal-Mart and HEB wearing his orange vest. Dad wasn't a complicated man. His theory was to work hard and play hard and watch the little money and the big money will take care of itself. He was very proud of his kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren and often said, " Look what I started". He would often say, he couldn't go to sleep at night because he couldn't wait till morning. He always had something to do and a plan. Hopefully, he will live on through us. He led by example, he never asked anybody to do anything that he wouldn't do himself.
Charley was preceded in death by his parents, Charley Sr. and Annie Barlow, his brother Jim Barlow and his wife, Martha Barlow.
He is survived by his two sons; Rick Barlow and his wife Lisa from China Spring and Rob Barlow and his wife Melinda of Arlington, his daughter, Debbie Lynd and her husband Gary of Temple, his sister, Ruth and her husband James Frey of Waco, six grandchildren, Alyson Haas and husband, Colton, Scott Lynd and wife, Meghan , Ricky Barlow and wife, Kristy, Cody Barlow and wife, Jessica, Zach Barlow , Savanna Barlow, six great grandchildren and a Special Friend, Vi Johnson of Georgetown.
