Charles Wyly

Charles Augustine Wyly, 83, of Hewitt, went to be with the Lord on December 11, 2012 after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Hewitt. Burial will follow at Lorena Cemetery in Lorena. Visitation will be at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Drive in Woodway at 6 to 8 PM on Friday, December 14, 2012.

Charles was born January 28, 1929 in Selden, TX to Eddie and Emma Wyly. Charles grew up on his parents' farm in Selden, near Stephenville, where his family had lived for several generations. He always had a love of history, and majored in history as an undergraduate. His favorite hobbies were genealogy and mechanics.

After serving in the military during the Korean War, Charles earned a Bachelors Degree in History from Tarleton and then earned a Masters Degree in Education from the University of North Texas. Charles then went on to touch the lives of thousands of students for over half a century as a school teacher, principal, and superintendent at several schools including Venus, Ferris, Walnut Springs, Hill College, West, Midway, and Waco. He served as a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts and as a Deacon and teacher in churches in Hewitt, Brandon, Venus, and more.

Charles was preceeded in death by his parents, Eddie and Emma Wyly of Selden.

Charles is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeannie, his daughter Sandra Suter and husband Mike, his son Rick Wyly and wife Teresa, grandchildren Jeremy Kinard and wife Christi, Lauren Wyly, Megan Schnitzius and husband Michael, Kristin Wyly, and great granddaughter Taylor Kinard.
