Charles "Mike" Matthews

Charles "Mike" Matthews passed away Sunday night February 7, 2021, at the age of 67.  A memorial visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday, February 25, 2021, in the Chapel of Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Dr.  The memorial service will be 10 A.M. Friday, February 26, 2021, in the Chapel of Grace Gardens Funeral Home with Mac Rust officiating.  The service will conclude with Masonic remembrances under the auspices of Crawford Lodge 585 A.F. & A.M.

Mr. Matthews was born January 10, 1954, in Fort Rucker, Alabama, the son of the late Charles Virgil and Frenchie Audette (Brown) Matthews,  he moved to the Waco area and was a 1972 graduate of Midway High School.  On September 1, 1984, he married Susan Lee Braun in Waco.  Much of is life was spent in the transportation business, being employed by Old Demion Freight Lines in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Dallas and Waco.  After forty years in the freight lines business he retired.

Mike was a member of the Crawford Masonic Lodge 585 AF & AM where he was active in all phases of the lodge including Worshipful Master.  He continued his Masonic interest with membership in the Scottish Rite Bodies.  Mike enjoyed woodworking and metal art as he was the owner and operator of Top Dog Metal Art.  Being an avid golfer, he took every advantage of a golf game that he could.  In more recent times, he enjoyed cruising.

Survivors include his wife Susan of thirty-six years; a son Chris Matthews and wife Melissa; mother Frenchie Matthews; a sister, Debi Smith and husband David; nieces Lani Rust and Meredith Cockrell.
