Charles Elmer Maddux

Charles Elmer Maddux passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023 at the age of 92. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, December 1, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Drive, Woodway, Texas 76712. Service is to follow at 11 a.m.

Charlie was born on August 31, 1931 in Hewitt, Texas to parents Elmer Maddux and Gladys Russell Maddux. He graduated from Midway High School in the Second Graduating class of 1949. While in school, Charlie excelled at various sports, holding the Midway record for the 100 yard dash for many years.

Family was very important to Charlie. He met the love of his life, Margaret McKey, when South Bosque and Hewitt High Schools consolidated in the fall of 1947. Charlie and Margaret were married for 73 years and had two children, Joy and Bert.

He was a proud leader of his community, serving on the Midway School Board for 14 years and as a deacon and song leader at First Baptist Hewitt. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church of Lorena. He worked hard and enjoyed a long, successful career as a top salesman and district manager for Cargill Hybrid Seeds. In 1991, Charlie and Margaret transformed their love of travel into a business - M&M Tours & Cruises. The couple spent many years traveling the world and making new friends.

Charlie is preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, J.W., and sister, Elsie May. He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Joy Poehls and her fiancé, Scott Presnall, son Bert Maddux and his wife, Mary Jo; grandchildren Melanie Machann and her wife, Leah, Ryan Poehls and his wife, Kelly, Bryan Poehls, Julie Holmsley and her husband, Jeremy, and Brad Maddux; great-grandchildren Avery and Patrick Poehls, Rocky Holmsley and Annie Holmsley who is due in March 2024; sister-in-law Martha Fulp and her husband, W.D.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
